Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, lies in the plain of the same name in the west of the country and is one of the oldest settlements in Europe.

The monumental building of the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, built between 1904 and 1912 according to a design by the Russian architect Alexandre Pomerantsev, towers in the city center. It covers an area of more than 2,500 m² and offers space for 5,000 people and was built in neo-Byzantine style in honor of the Russian liberators.

During the tour, you can also admire the Church of St. Nicholas (1914) and then walk along Vitosha Boulevard, where you can still see the ruins of the Romanesque city of Serdica beneath your feet.
