Itinerary
DAY 1: FRANKFURT - BUCHAREST - POIANA BRASOV
Arrival at Bucharest Otopeni Airport. Reception by the Romanian tour guide and onward journey into the mountains. Arrival in the late afternoon in Poiana Brasov.
DAY 2: AREA OF POIANA BRASOV
In the morning drive towards Bran. Tour of the castle, also known as Dracula Castle. Then drive to Sinaia. Visit to the Peles Castle (summer residence of the Romanian royal family). Later, Sinaia Monastery is also visited. This was built by monks from the Sinai Peninsula in the 16th century. These later gave the city its name. Return to Brasov in the afternoon. Visit to the Black Church (largest Gothic religious building in Eastern Europe), the old town hall and the Orthodox church from the old town.
DAY 3: POIANA BRASOV - IASI
Morning drive north. On the way visit the fortified church of Prejmer. Stop at the Red Lake and also at the Bicaz Gorge. Then drive into Moldova. Arrival in Iasi in the afternoon. Visit to the Mitropolitan Cathedral.
DAY 4: IASI - SUCEAVA
Morning city tour of Iasi with a visit to the Palace of Culture and the “Trei Ierarchi” church. At noon, drive towards Suceava.
DAY 5: MONASTERY TOUR
Morning visit to the old town of Suceava. The old fortress, the cathedral and the St. John monastery are visited. Then drive to Putna Monastery. Visit to the Putna Monastery, which was founded by Prince Stefan the Great. Then stop in Radauti to see the Bogdana Church (14th century) one of the oldest in Romania. In the afternoon the Dragomirna monastery is visited.
DAY 6 MONASTERY TOUR
Morning visit to the Humor Monastery, known for its exterior wall painting. Then the Sucevita Monastery is seen. On the exterior paintings one can observe scenes from the Bible as well as from the history of the Romanian people. Then over the Obcina mountain we arrive at the Moldovita monastery. The symbols of the paintings are explained here. In the afternoon stop at the “Sistine Chapel” of Romania. Visit to the Voronet Monastery with its beautiful depiction of the Last Judgment.
DAY 7: SUCEAVA - SIGHISOARA (WINE TASTING IN THE SEUCA WINERY)
In the morning drive over Campulung Moldovenesc and the Tihuta Pass into Transylvania. First stop in Bistrita to see the Protestant church with its guild flags. Via Tirgu Mures you arrive at the Seuca winery, where you can taste the famous wines of the Kokel valley. Then drive to Sighisoara, which is also known as Romania's Rothenburg. Visit of the Clock Tower, the birth house of Prince Dracula as well as the Church on the Hill.
DAY 8: SIGHISOARA - SIBIU - CALIMANESTI
In the morning you can see Biertan , the largest fortified church in Romania. Until the end of the 19th century, this was also the seat of the Protestant bishops. In Medias you can visit the old city center, with the Margaret Church, which houses the largest winged altar in Transylvania. Continue to Sibiu. City tour in Sibiu with a visit to the Great and small ring, the Bridge of Lies, and the Protestant cathedral. In the afternoon drive along the Olt Valley, via Cisnadioara and Cisnadie towards the Red Tower Pass and into Wallachia, to Calimanesti - Caciulata.
DAY 9: CALIMANESTI - CURTEA DE ARGES - BUCHAREST
In the morning drive to Curtea de Arges, the former royal court, and visit the monastery. Continue towards the capital. Short stop at the Cozia Monastery (14th century) founded by Mircea the Elder. Visit to the monastery that was built in the Moorish style. Via Pitesti, we arrive in Bucharest. In the evening you can enjoy a festive dinner with a folklore program in the Restaurant ” Pescarus “.
DAY 10: CURTEA DE ARGES - BUCHAREST - FRANKFURT
In the morning, city tour of Bucharest with a visit to the Palace of the Parliament (second largest building in the world), the Patriarchal Church (seat of the Orthodox head of Romania), as well as the Village Museum. Transfer to the airport. Farewell to the tour guide and flight home.
