Itinerary
DAY 1: ZURICH - FRANKFURT - CLUJ NAPOCA
Arrival at Cluj Napoca airport. Reception by the Romanian tour guide and transfer to the hotel.
DAY 2: CLUJ NAPOCA - SIGHETUL MARMATIEI
Morning city tour in Cluj-Napoca with a visit to St. Michael's Church and the statue of Mathias Corvinus, one of the greatest Hungarian kings. Then drive north. Short stop in Surdesti and visit the wooden church with the highest tower in Romania. Afternoon visit to the “Merry Cemetery” from Sapinta . Here you can read a funny poem about the deceased on every tombstone. Continue to Sighetul Marmatiei.
DAY 3: SIGHETUL MARMATIEI - CAMPULUNG MOLDOVENESC
In the morning drive towards Viseul de Sus. The ride with the forest railway up to the Vaser Valley, through a wild and romantic area, is a unique experience. Festive lunch up in the mountains. Return to Viseu in the afternoon. Continue by bus through the Prislop Pass to Campulung Moldovenesc .
DAY 4: MONASTERY TOUR
First stop will be at Moldovita Monastery . Here the nuns will explain the symbols of the Orthodox faith. The exterior wall paintings of the monastery show scenes from the Bible and from the history of the Romanian people. Then drive over the Obcina mountain to the Sucevita Monastery , also known for its exterior wall paintings. In the afternoon, the “Sistine Chapel” of Romania, the Voronet monastery , is visited. Here you can see an impressive painting of the “Last Judgment”. In the evening festive dinner with folklore in the hotel.
DAY 5: CAMPULUNG MOLDOVENESC - TIRGU MURES
In the morning drive over the Tihuta Pass back to Transylvania. Short stop in Bistrita with a visit to the Protestant church , where the guild flags from the Middle Ages are kept. Afternoon arrival in Targu Mures. City tour in Targu Mures with a visit to the Palace of Culture as well as the orthodox cathedral from the old town.
DAY 6: TARGU MURES - SIBIU
In the morning drive south. First stop in Sighisoara . Here you can see the Clock Tower , the birthplace of Prince Dracula , as well as the church on the Hill.. Then a short stop at the largest fortified church in Transylvania. The fortified church from Biertan was the seat of the evangelical bishops of Transylvania until the end of the 19th century. In the afternoon visit to the Margaret Church from Medias , with the largest winged altar in Romania. Continue to Sibiu. In the evening wine tasting and a festive dinner in the “Butoiul de Aur” restaurant.
DAY 7: SIBIU - CLUJ NAPOCA
Morning city tour in Sibiu. The Great and Small Ring, the Bridge of Lies and then the Brukenthal Museum will be visited. Then drive to Sibiel and visit the glass icon museum . Afternoon city tour in Alba Iulia. Visit to the Catholic Cathedral (seat of the bishop) and the old fortress, built by Eugene of Savoy.
DAY 8: CLUJ NAPOCA - FRANKFURT
In the morning transfer to Cluj Napoca airport . Farewell to the tour guide and flight home .
