Itinerary
DAY 1: BUCHAREST - TULCEA
Arrival at Bucharest Airport - Otopeni. Reception by the Romanian guide and continue the trip to Tulcea .
DAY 2: DANUBE DELTA
Boat trip to the Danube Delta . Ride with the excursion boat on the main Sulina canal to the secondary canals of the Danube Delta. The journey then continues over the canal mile 36 to Lake Nebunu and Lake Fortuna , nature reserves of the Danube Delta. Numerous birds and over 1,200 tree and plant species as well as unique pelican colonies have found their home here. Lunch on board the ship included. In the afternoon drive back to Tulcea.
DAY 3:TULCEA - PREDEAL
In the morning drive across the Danube back to Wallachia. Then continue through the Prahova Valley to Predeal . Predeal is a ski area in the middle of the Carpathian Mountains. The city has around 30,000 inhabitants and is a popular recreational area both in winter and in summer. With an altitude of 1093 meters, it is also the highest city in Romania.
DAY 4: PREDEAL
In the morning visit to Peles Castle , the summer residence of the royal family of Hohenzollern. In the afternoon drive to Bran Castle , which is also called Dracula Castle. From Bran we continue to Brasov. The city was founded in the 13th century by the knights of the Teutonic Order and for centuries was an economic and intellectual center of the Transylvanian Saxons. City tour and visit to the most important sights: the Black Church with its Buchholz organ and the largest collection of oriental carpets, the medieval city wall around the historic old town with stylish late medieval town houses, the town hall square , the unique Rope Street , the Catherine’s Gate and the small hidden Orthodox church from the center. Festive dinner in Predeal in the restaurant "Cabana Trei Brazi", with specialties from Romanian cuisine and folklore music.
DAY 5: PREDEAL - SUCEAVA
In the morning drive north through the Szeklerland. Short stop at the Saxon fortified churches Harman or Prejmer, which for centuries defended Brasov from raids from the north - east. Continuation of the journey past the Red Lake (Lacul Rosu) through the Bicaz gorge into Moldova. In the afternoon, a short stop at Neamt Monastery, that was founded by Prince Stefan the Great. From a scenic point of view, this section of the journey is the most beautiful of this round trip.
DAY 6: MONASTERY TOUR
In the morning drive to Voronet Monastery , also known as the “Sistine Chapel” of Romania. Here you can admire a beautiful representation of the “Last Judgment”. Then drive to the Moldovita Monastery , which is world-famous for its exterior wall paintings . Then drive over the Obcina mountain to the Sucevita Monastery . The exterior wall paintings depict scenes from the Bible and the history of the Romanian people. Nearby is the Marginea Ceramic Center where the black ceramics are still produced using the old techniques.
DAY 7: SUCEAVA - TARGU MURES
In the morning drive west. First stop in Campulung Moldovenesc and visit to the wood museum . We drive through Tihuta Pass into Transilvania. On the way, a short stop at the Dracula Castle Hotel , the area that is also mentioned in Bram Stoker's book “Dracula”. Afternoon city tour in Bistrita with a visit. to the Protestant Church. Afterwards city tour in Targu Mures with a visit to the Palace of Culture and the Orthodox Cathedral (the largest in Romania).
DAY 8: TARGU MURES - SIBIU
In the morning drive to Sighisoara. Sights are: the Clock Tower , the birth house of Prince Dracula and the Church on the Hill. Then a short stop in Biertan and a visit to the largest fortified church in Transylvania. The fortified church was the seat of the evangelical bishops from Transylvania until the end of the 19th century. Continue to Sibiu. In the evening wine tasting and festive dinner with folklore music in the restaurant “Butoiul de Aur”.
DAY 9: SIBIU - PITESTI
Morning city tour in Sibiu with a visit to the Great and Small Ring, the Bridge of Lies , the Protestant Parish Church and the Brukental Museum. In the afternoon drive through the Red Tower Pass to Wallachia . Short stop at Cozia Monastery (14th century), one of the oldest in Romania, founded by Prince Mircea the Elder. Then visit the Curtea de Arges monastery , which was built in the Moorish style.
DAY 10: PITESTI - BUCHAREST - HOMELAND
Drive from Pitesti to Bucharest . City tour with a visit to the Parliament Palace (second largest building in the world after the Pentagon), the Patriarchal Church (seat of the Orthodox head of Romania) and the Village Museum . Transfer to the airport, farewell to the Romanian tour guide and flight home .
