THE CARPATHIAN MOUNTAINS AND THE BLACK SEA

Arrival in Bucharest / Otopeni. Reception by the Romanian tour guide. Ride in a modern bus (air conditioning, bar, toilet) to Mamaia . The seaside resort is located approx. 268 km east of Bucharest on the Black Sea coast.

 

An optional half-day excursion is possible to visit all the bathing and health resorts on the Black Sea coast. The excursion begins in Constanta , followed by a visit to the student bathing resort Costinesti . Continue south to the spas of Olimp , Neptune , Jupiter , Saturn and the city of Mangalia . The oldest mosque in Romania (15th century) is also located here.

 

At leisure to visit Constanta or on the beach. A folklore evening is optional with dance, music and specialties from Romanian cuisine, wine and fruit snaps.

Day trip to the Danube Delta . Early in the morning departure from the hotel and arrival in Tulcea around 10:00 a.m. From here, a boat trip through the Danube canals to visit the fishing villages and the pelican reserve by Lake Fortuna . The warm lunch will be served on the ship. Arrival in Mamaia at 8:00 p.m.

At leisure.

 

After breakfast drive towards Bucharest . City tour with a visit to the main sights: the Patriarchal Church , the Village Museum , the Parliament Palace (the second largest building in the world, after the Pentagon). In the first hours of the afternoon we continue our journey north to Predeal .

 

Predeal is a ski area in the middle of the Carpathian Mountains. The city has around 30,000 inhabitants and is a popular recreational area both in winter and in summer. The day is at leisure. We recommend: A swim in the hotel's indoor pool, a hike to the “Trei Brazi” mountain hut or a city tour. For active guests, the cable car is available that goes to the top of the Bucegi Mountains .

 

In the morning drive to the nearby city of Sinaia . Visit to the Peles Castle which was built in the Bavarian style by the first Romanian king.The palace was the summer residence of the von Hohenzollern royal family. Next door is the Sinaia Monastery , which gave the city its name. The monks who came here from the Sinai Peninsula in the 16th century built this beautiful monastery. In the evening (optional) a visit to Predeal, in the restaurant "Casa Taraneasca" can be organized. Romanian specialties and gypsy music are offered here.

Day trip to Brasov, Harman and Prejmer . With over 300,000 inhabitants, Brasov is one of the largest in the country and the second strongest industrial city in Romania. Here you will find the old town with the town hall square and the Black Church , the largest Gothic building in Eastern Europe. Afternoon drive north to the fortified churches of Harman and Prejmer, which have been important points of the Brasov defense system over the centuries. Afternoon drive to Poiana Brasov, one of the most popular ski areas in Romania.

 

In the morning drive towards Bran. This fortress is located in the southern part of Transylvania and was the border crossing point for centuries. The fortress is also known as Dracula Castle . At lunchtime ( optional ) you can go to Moeciu by horse drawn carriage on the narrow paths through the mountains . A good, rural lunch, like in grandmother's time, as well as wine and schnapps are also available.

After breakfast drive to Bucharest . There is still time for a stroll through the city before departure. Farewell to the Romanian tour guide and journey home.
