In this tour thru Romania you will get to know country and his people, traditions from Transylvania, monasteries from Moldavia and churches from Maramures.
1st Day Budapest - Cluj Napoca
After crossing the Hungarian Pusta plain arrival to the Romanian border at Bors. Meeting with the Romanian guide that will accompany the group the entire trip. After a few kilometres, arrival in Oradea. The city is famous throughout Romania because of its buildings in youth style and the Church with Moon. Through the west Carpathian Mountains, travel heading Cluj-Napoca, the target of today’s trip. D/O/B
2nd Day Cluj Napoca - Sibiu
In the morning visit to the St. Michael Cathedral in the old town that was build by the Transylvanian saxons in the 14th century. Close by it can also be seen the statue of the Hungarian king Mathias Corvinus. During the morning, sightseeing of Alba Iulia is also scheduled, where one can still see parts of the fort constructed by Eugen of Savoy. In the fort, is also visited the catholic Cathedral where an important part of the Hungarian kings are buried. In the afternoon arrival in Sibiu. During a short walk in the old town, crossing the Large and Small squares is reached the Bridge of lies. D/O/B
3rd Day Tour of the fortified churches
Transylvania is famous worldwide for its Saxon fortified churches. Therefore we visit today the fortified churches from Slimnic, Axente- Sever. (Women village), the Margarethen church with its oblique Clock tower from Medias as well as the castle from Biertan. At noontime we will be in Sighisoara. The sights of the city are the old Clock tower, the birthplace of the sovereign Dracula, the mountain church as well as the Josef-Haltrich secondary school. In the evening we are invited to Sibiel to visit the Glass icons museum. Lastly we will go home to the mountain farmers where a festive dinner will be waiting for us. O/B
4th Day Sibiu - Bucharest
In the morning departure towards Bucharest. On the way out of the Red-Tower-Pass, will be visited the monastery of Cosia, which is the oldest monastery on our trip. Early in the afternoon, is programmed the arrival in Bucharest. The sightseeing tour begins immediately by visiting the Patriarchy, the village museum, as well as, if possible, the Palace of the Parliament, the second biggest building in the world after the Pentagon. 5th Day Bucharest - Brasov
In the morning departure heading north. After about 2 hours, arrival in Sinaia where the visit of the Peles Castle is planned. Constructed in the Bavarian style, this castle served as summer residence for the Romanian royal family. The Hohenzollerns have tried, by building this castle, to bring a piece of their homeland here in the East. Next to the grand Peles Castle one can also find the monastery Sinaia. This monastery, which was erected by monks from the Sinai-Peninsula in the 17th century, also gave the name for the later city here in the mountains. In the afternoon arrival in Brasov. In the evening, drive up to the old defence citadel of the city to spend a musical evening. Sopranos, tenors, a ballet ensemble and a symphonic orchestra will be enchanting us. 6th Day Brasov
In the morning, visit to the old town of Brasov with its Black Church, the largest gothic building in Eastern Europe. Turkish carpets which were given to the church by the traders from Brasov across the centuries are shown here. The old city hall in the vicinity can also be visited. Noon will be spent on the ski slopes in Poiana Brasov and the lunch will be served at the “Robber cottage”. For the afternoon, the viewing of the Bran castle is reserved. Although the Teutons begun building it, the castle got its present appearance only in the 13 century when the Transylvanian Saxons expanded it and inserted it into Brasov’s defence system. This castle is also known as the castle of Dracula because for a short time the sovereign Dracula from Walachia also lived here. D/O/B
7th Day Brasov - Piatra Neamt
In the morning will be visited two fortified churches near Brasov that were built in the 13th century. The fortresses of Harman and Prejmer. After that we drive north, through the eastern part of Transylvania, through the land of the Szekler. The road will take us along the most beautiful route, from the point of view of the landscape, of the entire trip, by crossing the east Carpathian Mountains through the Bicaz Keys and close to the "Red Lake"-Pass.
8th Day Piatra Neamt - Campulung Moldovenesc
In the morning, visit to two nun monasteries, the monasteries of Agapia and Varatec, which are the largest in the entire Europe with more than 1000 nuns each. The workshops of the nuns where they produce carpets, goblins or icons are open. In the afternoon visit to the Neamt monastery where an important number of monks live. D/O/B
9th Day Tour of the monasteries
In the morning the day starts with the visit of the Moldovita monastery, known worldwide thanks to the exterior wall paintings. Here the tourists have the opportunity to be introduced to the world of the orthodox belief by mother Tatijana. Over the Obcina- Mountain, is the Sucevita monastery where is to be recognised another paint-style. The ceramic centre of Marginea is also close by, where one can see the manufacturing of the black ceramic. In the afternoon visit to the Voronet monastery which is also known as the "Sixtine Chapel” of Romania. In the evening Folklore folkloric program in the Wood Museum from Campulung Moldovenesc. At the same time will also be tasted the Romanian cooking. Of course drinks will also be at hand. D/O/B
10th Day Campulung Moldovenesc - Satu Mare
In the morning, departure driving through the Prislop Pass in order to arrive to the county of Maramures. Here the old traditions are still very well preserved. First o all visit to the world wide known wood churches from Ieud, Bogdan Voda and Rozavlea, which are identical to the rod churches from Norway. In the afternoon, stop in Sapinta at the "Merry cemetery". Here one can read a jolly poem about the deceased on each gravestone. In the evening overnight in an architectural monument, Dacia hotel which was constructed in the Secession style. D/O/B
11th Day Satu Mare - Budapest
During the morning, departure heading the border in Bors. A short stop is planned on the way, in the city of Oradea where buildings were mostly constructed in the youth style. At the border, fare well to the Romanian guide and drive to Budapest.
