Day 1 Tue. Home –Bucharest
Arrival at the airport, welcome by the tour guide and transfer to the hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure in the city. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 2 Wed. Bucharest – Cozia Monastery – Sibiu – Bazna
Drive through Wallachia, with a short stop at Cozia Monastery (14th century). Afterwards, continue through the Red Tower Pass into Transylvania. Walking tour in Sibiu/Hermannstadt with visits to the Great and Small Squares, the Bridge of Lies, the Evangelical Cathedral and the Roman Catholic Church. Evening arrival in Bazna/Baasen.
Day 3 Thu. Bazna – Sighisoara – Biertan – Bazna
In the morning, drive to Biertan (Birthälm), home to the largest Saxon fortified church in Transylvania—an impressive testimony to medieval architecture and culture. Here you have the opportunity to explore the massive defensive walls and the historic interior of the fortified church. Continue to Sighișoara (Schäßburg), one of the best-preserved medieval towns in Europe and birthplace of Count Dracula. During a guided tour, you will visit the famous Clock Tower, the birthplace of Vlad Țepeș, and the imposing Church on the Hill, which stands high above the old town and offers a magnificent view of the surrounding area. In the afternoon, enjoy a picturesque horse-drawn wagon ride to the Saxon fortified church of Boian (Bonnesdorf), where you gain further insights into the medieval life and culture of the Transylvanian Saxons. A day full of history, architecture and unmistakable charm.
Day 4 Fri. Bazna – Turda – Cluj-Napoca – Sighetu Marmației
In the morning, drive to Turda/Torenburg and visit the salt mine. Afterwards, sightseeing tour of Cluj-Napoca/Klausenburg with visits to St. Michael’s Cathedral and the statue of Matthias Corvinus. In the afternoon, continue to Săpânța to visit the “Merry Cemetery.” Overnight in Sighetu Marmației.
Day 5 Sat. Sighetu Marmației – Viseu de Sus – Bistrita
Morning drive to Viseu de Sus/Oberwischau, where the Vaser Valley Railway awaits. This narrow-gauge steam train with a gauge of only 760 mm takes you through a wild and romantic forested region of the Carpathians. Along the route, you can admire many bridges and tunnels. The Vaser Valley was already used in the 18th century by the Austrian monarchy as a waterway through the dense Carpathian forests. Picnic with drinks in the mountains possible at midday. In the afternoon, transfer from Viseu to the hotel.
Day 6 Sun. Bistrita – Sovata – Predeal
In the morning, drive by bus to the spa resort of Sovata, famous worldwide for its thermal baths. Here you take a steam special train on the narrow-gauge line from Sovata to Câmpu Cetății (Burg Feld) and back, rebuilt in 2011. Afterwards, drive via Praid and Homorod to Predeal.
Day 7 Mon. Predeal – Brasov – Bran – Sinaia – Bucharest
In the morning, drive to Brasov/Kronstadt. Short walking tour in the old town. Then drive to Bran/Törzburg Castle, also known as “Dracula’s Castle.” Continue with a short stop in Sinaia for an exterior visit of Peleș Castle, the summer residence of the Romanian kings. In the afternoon, city tour of the Romanian capital with visits to the Cathedral of the Salvation of the People and the Village Museum. Festive dinner with folklore show at Hanu’ lui Manuc Restaurant.
Day 8 Tue. Bucharest – Home
Morning at leisure. Afterwards, transfer to the airport, farewell to the tour guide, and flight home.
